Description
Branching off the summit of Caneel Hill, this 0.3‑mile spur links the overlook with the resort area at Caneel Bay. The spur drops steeply through dry scrub and patches of second‑growth forest, providing glimpses of Hawksnest and Trunk bays between the trees. Because it is more remote than the main hill trail, the path is narrower and rougher; hikers should watch their footing on loose rock. Nevertheless, it provides a quick way to reach Caneel Bay’s beaches without returning to Cruz Bay. Remember that the beaches at Caneel Bay are currently accessible only by foot or boat due to resort closures, so pack everything you need. The climb back to the summit is short but strenuous, rising more than 300 feet in a quarter mile. Many visitors ascend the Caneel Hill Trail, take in the view, then descend the spur and exit via North Shore Road, completing a pleasant loop.
